Music Industry Will Force Licenses on Amazon Cloud Player ... or Else

The music labels are bullies. Bullies take what they can whether it's rightfully theirs or not.

If nobody stands up to them, then they'll bully everybody.

How we access our music after paying for it is none of their business and they shouldn't have a say in it.

What they mostly hate about this is that users of this service will be able to access their music collection from anywhere without the need to repurchase it. Plus, Amazon's cloud is very well backed up and users won't be losing their music collection anymore; not to theft, not to fire or none of the other reasons that caused people in the past to repurchase the same music again and again, benefitting those mobs over and over.

Google's dropping H.264 from Chrome a step backward for openness

Google's justification doesn't really add up, and there's a strong chance that the decision will serve only to undermine the use of the <video> tag completely. This is not a move promoting the open web. If anything, it is quite the reverse.

As I see it, Google is doing Adobe a huge favour. This isn't about openness at all. It's all about proprietary stuff. Google is pushing WebM, which it owns. But this will result in more support for Flash, which Adobe owns.

This is major hypocrisy.

Meat producers should replace cattle with insects, scientists say

Scientists in the Netherlands have discovered that insects produce significantly less greenhouse gas per kilogram of meat than cattle or pigs. Their study, published in the online journal PLoS One, suggests that a move towards insect farming could result in a more sustainable - and affordable - form of meat production.

The parable of the the PDA: predicting the smartphone's future

The problem is that the vendors that lost this game failed because they listened to their customers. Like with PDAs or with the original mobile phones or first generation of PCs, early adopters are not the audience that should be consulted on how to improve the product.

Horace Dediu makes very good points. Must read.
